O'Malley supports gay marriage bill
July 15, 2011 - 02:47 pm
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Gov. Martin O'Malley says he will be very supportive of a new gay marriage bill in Maryland with a focus on protecting religious freedom similar to legislation that was approved in New York.
O'Malley, a Democrat, spoke about his thoughts on revisiting gay marriage legislation while attending the National Governors Association meeting in Salt Lake City on Friday.
He says he is talking with a broad coalition that is forming around the issue. Earlier this week, same-sex marriage supporters launched a new coalition to push for legislation in the session that begins in January.
O'Malley says he plans to be active in his support, and he is planning other announcements in upcoming months on the issue.
