Obama wrote in a condolence book that, "We are all heartbroken by the tragic loss of so many people particularly youth with the fullness of life ahead of them."

The ambassador was in Norway and not present, but Obama greeted some people at the residence and told them: "We're devastated ... but we will stand with you."
