Lelia Whitfield fatally struck by vehicle in Landover
Prince George’s County Fire reports a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle on Route 202 in Landover.
It happened in the 7600 block of Landover Road near Fire House Road around 5:24 a.m. Thursday.
Upon arrival, authorities found a woman lying in the roadway. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Prince George's County Police say the victim is Lelia Whitfield of Landover. Police don't have an exact age for her, but say she is about 50.
The striking vehicle stayed on the scene. No charges have yet been filed against the driver.
Prince George's County Police say that the victim is a female in her mid 40s who was walking alone. Speed and alcohol don't appear to be factors, however, police are still trying to determine if she was in a crosswalk or not.
Landover Road remained closed for about three hours while police investigated the incident. The road reopened just after 8:30 a.m.
