Police identify body found in Md.'s Choptank River
July 25, 2011 - 09:31 am
DENTON, Md. (AP) - Police in Maryland say the death of a Caroline County man whose body was found in the Choptank River near Denton is a homicide.
Maryland State Police identified the man on Monday as 71-year-old Louis Nichols of Denton. A man fishing in the river Sunday saw Nichols' body at about 11 a.m. and called authorities.
Troopers say Monday's autopsy determined the cause of death, but officers will not release that information because it could jeopardize the investigation.
Police say Nichols worked at a restaurant in Ridgely and was last seen about 10 p.m. on Saturday.
