(AP, WJLA) - The start of work that will upgrade the main runday approach light system at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport has been pushed back to Monday due to equipment issues.

Officials at Washington's Reagan National Airport will begin next week on about 90 days of overnight pile driving work to upgrade the main runway's approach light system.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority says in a news release says the overnight work is needed to keep from interfering with the airport's daily flight schedule. The work will take place nightly between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., depending on the weather.

The authority says many of the lights are on a pier in the Potomac River and they will be replaced with new and upgraded equipment. The airfield will also receive runway milling and paving while the pier work is being done.
