A severe accident has shut down all lanes of U.S. Route 50 near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
The fatal accident occurred just before I-97 and traffic is already backed up approaching the bay.
Maryland State Highway Administration officers are diverting all traffic off the freeway and onto MD-424/Davidsonville Rd.
The SHA advised beachgoers in a tweet that taking MD-3 to southbound I-97 is a viable detour.
