Son of killed Springfield man wanted for murder
Authorities in Pennsylvania have arrested Richard Hanson, the son of the 75-year-old man who was shot and killed at his Springfield home on Tuesday.
Hanson was apprehended in Scranton, Pa. by Fairfax County Police and U.S. Marshals.
Police issued a murder warrant for RIchard, the son of 75-year-old Gary Hanson, who was found shot Tuesday. Fairfax County Police said Wednesday that Richard Hanson was a suspect in his father's death.
A spokesperson says enough probable cause was developed to issue a murder warrant Wednesday.
Police described Richard Hanson as a 53-year-old white man who weighs 250lbs and stands 6'1". He was believed to be driving a 4-door green Saturn sedan with Virginia tags KLG 2406. Police say anyone who sees Richard Hanson should be cautious and call police.
Police had previously said they consider the son "endangered" because he does not have his medication. They would not disclose his illness.
Neighbors say Richard and his brother live with their parents. Though the father, Gary, who had a stroke several years ago, could still drive and was enjoying his retirement.
Gary Hanson was found dead inside his longtime Springfield home around 6 p.m. Tuesday night, a victim of a gunshot wound. The autopsy was scheduled to take place Wednesday.
Police were guarding the Hanson home Wednesday as the suspect was on the loose. Neighbor Irene Harlow saw heavily armed police outside her house.
“You have little kids in the neighborhood so it's scary,” said neighbor Cindy Majors. “They haven't been able to find this person.”
