Suspect at-large after police chase ends in crash
Updated: July 8, 2011 - 08:07 am
Authorities are searching for one of two suspects, believed to be armed and dangerous, after a carjacking prompted a police chase from Maryland into D.C. that ended in a crash, police say.
About 2:20 a.m. Friday, officers tried to pull a vehicle over in Anne Arundel County, but the car took off and a chase ensued. During the pursuit, the suspects drove through Prince George’s County then crashed into a wall at the corner of Route 50 and New York Avenue in Northeast. The two suspects fled into the woods.
Prior to the chase, police say a man called 911 to say two black men, driving a silver Ford, stole his car at gunpoint in Odenton. That report prompted officers to search for the vehicle, which they later spotted and that’s when the pursuit began.
Police say one suspect is in custody and is being held at a Anne Arundel County police station, but the other is still on the loose. Both are described as two black males.
The incident shut down the area for hours, but it reopened around 4:30 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing.
