Tranice Richardson shot, killed in Frederick
The hunt for the man who shot and killed a 33-year-old woman in Frederick on Friday night goes on.
Authorities say that they found Tranice Richardson of Frederick shot and killed in the area of Orchard Terrace of Hill Street just before 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Poilce named the suspect in the shooting as Melvin William Smith, a 27-year-old black male who stands 5'8" and has black hair and brown eyes.
Frederick Police say that Richardson and Smith had been involved in a romantic relationship. Richardson had briefly taken out a restraining order on Smith in 2009, but it expired when she didn't show up to a court hearing, the Frederick News-Post reports.
A 2009 paternity hearing declared that Smith was the father of a child born to Richardson.
Smith has a criminal history dating back more than a decade, including a 2000 manslaughter conviction in the shooting death of a Baltimore man. He received a five year sentence.
He also pleaded guilty to possession of narcotics in 2006 and heroin in 2010. Smith also received a 30 month sentence after pleading guilty to escape in 2006.
Police are interviewing witnesses and following leads. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Frederick Police.
