Two more robberies on Metropolitan Branch Trail
WASHINGTON (AP) - Two more robberies have occurred on a trail between Washington and Maryland where there have been several holdups in recent months.
D.C. police say the most recent reported incident happened at Third and R streets in northeast Washington when a pedestrian was held up at gunpoint Friday. In what police say is a common street-crime technique, the robber approached the man and asked for the time of day. When the man checked his iPhone for the time, the robber showed a handgun and stole the man's phone and wallet.
Earlier this month, another robbery occurred in the same area.
Police say there were five incidents on the Metropolitan Branch Trail between May 5 and June 5.
The Guardian Angels have begun patrols along the bicycling and hiking path.
