Victim of suspected serial slasher speaks out
A 20-year-old Northern Virginia woman who was one of the victims of the suspected serial slasher spoke out Thursday about the horrific crime.
The woman was five months pregnant when she was slashed in the buttocks on Valentine’s Day outside Champps restaurant at the Fair Oaks Mall.
"I think it’s horrible,” the victim said. “I'm just glad people know about it now. I hope he gets caught"
She said she felt a pinch on her bottom and at first thought someone had ripped her leggings. She thought a man who was standing right behind her had done it, but he denied it. She said he was carrying a yellow bag.
“Then all of a sudden, it started to sting, and I felt it and there was blood all over my hand - it was ridiculous,” she said.
The cut, approximately two inches long, gushed blood. She was treated at a hospital.
Police say suspect is heavy-set Hispanic man
Police are looking for a heavy-set Hispanic male, 5 feet 6 inches tall, in his later 20s or early 30s. He wore white shorts and a short-sleeved shirt in a July 25 assault. Police suspect the man of a series of similar crimes.
Detectives say this attack may be linked to four others in retail stores in Fairfax County since February. Two other young women at the Fair Oaks Mall as well as woman the Tysons Corner Mall and Greenbriar fell victim to similar crimes.
“I don't want him to do this to anymore girls. It's traumatic. It's terrible,” the victim said.
In each case, the suspect distracts the victims before cutting them. He used that tactic in his latest attack on an 18-year-old woman inside the Forever 21 store in Fair Oaks Mall on Monday evening. A police spokeswoman said the victim heard someone come up behind her and drop something, then felt a piercing pain in her buttocks.
The suspect used an unknown weapon - probably a box cutter or razor. The victim suffered a one and a half inch wound, police say.
Caldwell says all of the victims were females in their teens or early 20's. Police have published surveillance photos of a suspect, but have not received many calls so far.
