Witness to hit-and-run tails driver until police make arrest
A witness to a hit-and-run collision on the Beltway alerted police and followed the fleeing driver until police caught the suspect in Rockville Saturday night.
At about 8:39 p.m. police received a report that a vehicle broke down near the River Road exit on 495. A second vehicle, struck the first from behind, police say.
The witness followed the suspect onto I-270 Northbound and as he exited on Montrose Road and continued into Rockville.
Rockville City Police, Montgomery County Police, and Maryland State Police conducted a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle. The man driving was taken into custody without incident.
The second vehicle fled the scene and drove up I-270 and got off on Montrose Road and was apprehended shortly after by Rockville City Police, Montgomery County Police and Maryland State Police units.
The driver of the first vehicle was taken to Suburban Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is in stable condition, police say.
Charges are pending.
