Woman rescued after fall into Old Occoquan Quarry
July 9, 2011 - 04:25 pm
A woman who slipped and fell into the Old Occoquan Quarry has been rescued by Fairfax County Fire and Rescue crews Saturday afternoon.
The woman was hiking with a man about 1 p.m. in the Occoquan Regional Park in Lorton, when she slipped and fell a significant distance, hit the ground, and then rolled into the quarry, says spokesperson Dan Schmidt.
Fire and Rescue crews launched two inflatable boats into the water, rescued the woman, and transported her out of the quarry to an awaiting medevac helicopter (Fairfax One).
Schmidt says the woman sustained "fairly serious, but non-life threatening injuries" and was flown to Fairfax Hospital. The male was taken by ground with minor injuries.
