18+ pounds of cocaine found on plane at Dulles
Authorities discovered more than 18 pounds of cocaine on a plane at Dulles International Airport Wednesday that arrived from Bogota, Colombia.
The cocaine had a street value of $580,000.
The Customs and Border Protection Agency stated that a K-9 alerted authorities to the shipment, that was found during a routine inspection of an Avianca Airlines plane. The drugs were taped behind a cargo hold panel.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
“Nefarious narcotics organizations continue to leverage all means to smuggle their deadly poison to the United States, even placing narcotics aboard unsuspecting commercial aircraft,” said Christopher Hess, CBP Port Director for the Port of Washington, D.C., in a statement “Customs and Border Protection officers remain committed to intercepting these smuggling attempts through the use of detector dogs and routine compliance inspections on international aircraft, particularly those arriving from narcotics source nations.”
