Death of German-born journalist, 91, in Georgetown ruled a homicide

WASHINGTON (AP) - D.C. police say the death of a 91-year-old woman, a German-born journalist, found unconscious at her Georgetown home has been ruled a homicide.

Officers called to a home in the 3200 block of Q Street northwest on Friday found a woman unconscious and unresponsive. Paramedics found that the woman, identified as 91-year-old Viola Drath, had no signs of life and she was pronounced dead.

Police announced Sunday that the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner had ruled Drath's death a homicide.

German-born Drath was a correspondent for German newspaper Handelsblatt, wrote columns for The Washington Times, authored several books and was a member of the National Committee on American Foreign Policy.

Police say there are no suspects in the slaying.
