An MPD sergeant accused of stealing money from an 85-year-old woman has pleaded guilty Monday to taking $40,000 from the victim.

Authorities said Aisha Hackley, 36, pleaded guilty in D.C. Superior Court to one count of first degree theft from a senior citizen. Hackley is also known as Aisha Jackson.

She is set to be sentenced on Oct, 17 and faces up to 15 years in prison.

As part of her plea, she must resign from the police department and pay back the victim.
Hackley is accused of forging the signature of an elderly woman she met during a fraud investigation and then depositing 10 checks totaling more than $43,000.

“Far too often, scam artists target our elderly population in fraud schemes,” said U.S. Attorney Ronald Machen in a statement. “Unfortunately, in this case, the perpetrator was an unscrupulous police sergeant. Her actions are in sharp contrast to the outstanding work done by the thousands of men and women who protect and serve our community every day as members of the Metropolitan Police Department. Today’s plea shows that if you target senior citizens, you will be held accountable for your crimes, no matter your position or status.”
