Warren Weinstein may have been targeted because of his license plate
U.S. agents may have found a new lead in their search for Rockville, Md. man Warren Weinstein, who was abducted in Pakistan on Aug. 13, WTOP reports.
Warren had a very unique license plate which ended with the number 500, said Fred Burton, former deputy chief of the counterterrorism division of the U.S. State Department's Diplomatic Security Service.
American diplomats in residence in Pakistan are usually assigned a plate from numbers designated for Americans. It's possible Weinstein may have been picked out and followed to his home because many criminals know the number sets diplomats are usually given, Burton said.
"Before we captured Ramzi Yousef, the mastermind of the first World Trade Center bombing, he and the informant that we worked actually walked around the diplomatic areas in Islamabad, Pakistan and Yousef knew where the Americans and Brits lived based upon the license plates," Burton says.
