Antonio Martinez's defense wants bomb plot charges dismissed
BALTIMORE (AP) - Attorneys for a Baltimore man accused of plotting to bomb a military recruiting center want the charges dismissed. They claim the government did not record some early meetings with an informant that they say could show he was coerced.
Antonio Martinez, also known as Muhammad Hussain, is charged with attempted murder of federal officers and attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction. Martinez has pleaded not guilty.
An affidavit details how Martinez was caught in an FBI sting operation after allegedly trying to detonate a phony bomb he was given in December.
Martinez's attorneys also want to suppress his statements in interviews and evidence from two homes and a cell phone.
U.S. Attorney Rod Rosenstein says the FBI generally records conversations once investigators determine the person is a potential danger.
