WASHINGTON (AP) - District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray has named a new chief of staff and deputy chief of staff.

Gray fired his previous chief of staff in March amid allegations of nepotism, cronyism and the promise of a job to a former mayoral candidate.

The Democratic mayor announced Tuesday that Christopher Murphy will serve as his new chief of staff. Murphy previously served as deputy chief of staff at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

New deputy chief of staff Andrea Pringle is a political consultant who worked on Howard Dean's 2004 presidential bid, among other campaigns.

The mayor says the new appointments are part of a bid to "turn the page" on the hiring scandals that overshadowed the start of his administration.
