D.C. police chief to attend back-to-school jam

WASHINGTON (AP) - District of Columbia Police Chief Cathy Lanier is welcoming children back to school.
The chief is scheduled to attend the Back-to-School Jamboree on Friday afternoon.
The 3 p.m. event at the Congress Park Community Center in southeast DC will include a spelling bee, free school supplies, food, games, voter registration and a parental involvement contest. There'll also be prizes given out.
