The D.C. Council passed a law this spring that's intended to prohibit lawsuits designed to intimidate or silence critics by tying them up with litigation.

A judge is weighing whether to dismiss Snyder's defamation claim against the newspaper in light of the new law. Snyder filed a $1 million defamation lawsuit over an article titled "The Cranky Redskins Fan to Dan Snyder," arguing that it libeled him by stating that he had committed a crime.

Snyder's attorneys have argued in a motion that the law oversteps the district's Home Rule Act.
