Daniel Howard Baker, girl injured in car crash
Two teens were seriously injured in a single-car crash on Monday afternoon.
Their car was traveling southeast in the 8000 block of Harriet Tubman Lane in Columbia when the vehicle ran off the road on a curve. It hit a telephone pole.
The driver was critically injured and flown to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore by helicopter. He has been identified as 18-year-old Daniel Howard Baker of the 6000 block of Mellow Wine Way, Columbia. Baker is in critical but stable condition.
A 15-year-old female passenger riding in the front seat was also seriously injured and flown to the hospital. She was last listed in stable condition.
Both were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision. Preliminary investigation reveals excessive speed and failure to drive within a single lane as contributing factors.
The investigation closed Harriet Tubman Lane between Caravan Ct. and Freetown Rd. until 6 p.m. The investigation continues.
