DAYBREAK DAILY: Two seperate overnight murders; NYT editorial prods Obama on plans
ABC7 TRAFFIC: A couple of earlier accidents on the Beltway have been cleared up, but now there's an inner-loop crash near Greenbelt that has closed two lanes. Follow DaybreakSkip on Twitter for breaking updates. Here’s the traffic flow map: http://tbd.ly/95jmWZ
BREAKING: D.C. police have arrested two people in connection with a fatal shooting early this morning in Meridian Hill Park near Howard University. http://wj.la/qfPpCw
BREAKING II: Prince George’s County police are investigating a homicide in Beltsville. Around 3:50 a.m., officers responded to the 3500 block of Cherryvale Drive for a report of trouble. Upon arrival, they found a woman suffering from trauma to the body. She was pronounced dead. http://wj.la/nP1qNI
CUFFED AND ON ICE: The husband of the 91-year-old writer found dead inside her Georgetown home is expected to appear in court today to face murder charges in her death. D.C. Police confirm Albrecht Muth, 47, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the death of his wife, German-born socialite Viola Drath. http://wj.la/pzTbbN
’BOUT TIME: But today’s lead New York Times editorial wants more from President Obama. “On a bus tour in the Midwest, he is bitterly pointing the finger at his opponents for their refusal to consider any new revenues to tackle the deficit and their insistence on deep near-term spending cuts that will only cause more economic pain. His anger is long overdue. But it would be much more effective if he combined it with strong ideas of his own for how to fix the economy.” http://nyti.ms/p6IPew
GLAD HE CLARIFIED THAT: Trying to explain why some Tea Party extremists get a lot of coverage, Mitt Romney patiently explained, per the Boston Globe, ““If someone lights their hair on fire, that’s very exciting – I don’t mean literally, I mean figuratively .” http://bo.st/nQ7l59
ATF FIREARMS FIASCO GROWS: Only a matter of time. Per the L.A. Times, “Firearms from the ATF's Operation Fast and Furious weapons trafficking investigation turned up at the scenes of at least 11 violent crimes in the U.S., as well as at a Border Patrol agent's slaying in southern Arizona last year, the Justice Department has acknowledged to Congress. The Times has learned that they occurred in several Arizona cities, including Phoenix (and) El Paso, where a total of 42 weapons from the operation were seized at two crime scenes.” http://lat.ms/nOnW0B
INDIGNANT DENIAL: China NEVER would do such a thing. Per the AP, “China has rejected media reports that Pakistan gave it access to a radar-evading helicopter that crashed during the U.S. mission to kill Osama bin Laden, calling them "preposterous." http://apne.ws/py9BSd
FAMILIAR FACES: Many D.C. students won’t have to wonder who that strange person is lurking in the halls. Per the Examiner, “Turnover among principals of the District's chronically troubled but reforming public schools is beginning to stabilize, a Washington Examiner analysis shows.” http://bit.ly/oHJICu
SPORTS STROLL: Morse helps lead Nats past Reds 6-4. . .NFL supplemental draft on hold. . .Mystics lose to New York 69-66.
NO, REALLY: Seems while an Arlington cop was responding to a report of a cyclist colliding with a car Tuesday the cop collided with a cyclist. No one was seriously hurt in either incident. Per ARLnow, http://bit.ly/pJi6HB
POLITICO BLINK: “Mitt Romney is finally facing an opponent who looks capable of halting his march to the GOP nomination. With his record of job creation and down-the-line conservative politics, Texas Gov. Rick Perry is menacing the Republican frontrunner in a way that other candidates – from Iowa straw poll winner Michele Bachmann to wealthy New Hampshire-dweller Jon Huntsman – have proven unable to do. But you wouldn’t know it from listening to Romney or his backers.” http://politi.co/pi2h9b
HAPPY TALK: But no action. Per the AP, “The leaders of France and Germany called Tuesday for greater economic discipline and unity among European nations but declined to take immediate financial measures seen by many investors as the only way to halt the continent's spiraling debt crisis.” http://apne.ws/qIkizs
