Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton involved in fender bender with D.C. police
WASHINGTON (AP) - Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton is probably hoping her next shopping trip is a little less exciting.
Norton says she was returning home from Eastern Market on Sunday, when a Metropolitan Police Department vehicle hit the front end of her car.
Norton tells The Washington Post that she and officer were both cordial and apologetic. She also says the officer regretted that their first-ever meeting happened that way. No one was injured in the accident that happened on Eighth Street in Southeast, but Norton says it attracted plenty of neighborhood interest.
The officer told Norton that he had his sirens turned on. A police spokesman said that he did not have details about where the police car was headed, how fast it was going or whether the sirens were turned on.
