A record number of people turned out at Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton's (D-D.C.) annual job fair Tuesday as unemployment numbers in the District skyrockets.

The fair, held at the D.C. Convention Center, drew more than 4,000 job seekers, all of whom are looking for their next career.

"We've had this for almost 15 years and we always have long lines," Holmes Norton says. "This is going to break all records and it is breaking my heart."

Everyone from recent college graduates to single mothers showed up to look for their next job. The latest numbers show that more than one in ten D.C. residents wants a job but can't get one.

"The line is so long, you'd think they're giving something up for free," D.C. resident and job seeker Julie Tebi said. She has an MBA and $80,000 worth of student loans, but no job.

"How can you pay them back if you don't have a job?," she said.
