Fire destroys District Heights townhouse, two others damaged
A fire destroyed a townhouse and damaged two others in District Heights Wednesday night.
Firefighters were called shortly after 8 p.m. to the townhouse in the 6000 block of South Hilmar Circle, Prince George's County Fire officials say. Fire officials say fire spread throughout the house and firefighters were evacuated. Two houses on the adjacent sides were damaged. The roof of one house partially collapsed, but no one was hurt.
Initial reports indicated that there was a trapped occupant of the home, however, all occupants were able to escape without injury. A dog was found dead on the second floor of the home.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Damage has been estimated at $250,000. Three families were displaced as a result of the fire, eight adults and two children. Red Cross assisted some of the occupants while others self relocated with family members.
