Frederick considers new lease for baseball stadium
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - Naming rights are among the sticking points as Frederick officials consider new lease terms for the city's minor-league baseball stadium.
Mayor Randy McClement and the Board of Alderman will air their differences at a workshop Wednesday afternoon.
The proposed 10-year deal with the Frederick Keys would increase the lease rate from $30,000 to $100,000 per season. But a provision for sharing revenue from naming rights is provoking debate.
Harry Grove Stadium is named for the baseball-loving father of a man who donated $250,000 toward its construction in 1988.
Those who oppose selling the naming rights say his gift should be respected - and not discarded in favor of a corporate logo.
