Gadsby's Tavern Museum closed for quake damage

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - One of the historic buildings in Old Town Alexandria will remain closed through the weekend following damage from Tuesday's earthquake.

City officials in Alexandria have closed Gadsby's Tavern Museum while they assess the damage. The most significant damage occurred on the chimneys of the 1792 structure.
The Tavern Museum consists of two buildings, a tavern that dates to 1785 and a hotel that dates to 1792. The tavern was a center of social life in late 18th century Alexandria, and George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were among its more famous patrons.
City officials say they will keep the museum closed at least through Sunday.
