August 13, 2011 - 12:44 pm
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Officials in Maryland say smoke from a large brush fire in Virginia is reaching the state.
Emergency officials in Annapolis say they've received multiple calls about a strong smoke odor. They say winds are pushing smoke from the brush fire near Chesapeake City, Va. toward parts of Maryland, including Annapolis. But the smoke is not associated with any flames in Maryland.
Baltimore officials say heavy smoke clouds have also reached city limits. Residents are urged to keep windows and doors closed, and people with respiratory illnesses affected by smoke fumes are being encouraged to seek medical attention.
