Inova Health System cuts 117 management jobs
August 26, 2011 - 07:44 am
FALLS CHURCH, Va. (AP) - A spokesman for Inova Health System says the company has cut 13 percent of its management jobs to reduce costs.
Tony Raker says Inova, one of the Washington region's largest health systems, has cut 117 senior and midlevel jobs across five its hospitals.
Raker says there were no cuts among nurses and doctors directly involved in patient care.
The Washington Post reports (http://wapo.st/nL4uQh) that 84 of the jobs eliminated were the result of attrition, and 33 were through layoffs.
Raker says the cost reductions were in response to anticipated health care changes, such as continuing reductions in Medicare compensation.
Employees were told of the cuts this week.
