Kensington murder-suicide: A day later, police, neighbors search for answers
A Kensington neighborhood is still in shock and is looking for answers as to why a mother would kill her 13-year-old son and then herself.
The mother, 54-year-old Margaret Jensvold, and her son, Benjamin Barhard, were found dead in their home Tuesday.
Signs of love and loss decorated the front of their home Wednesday, where police say Jensvold shot and killed her son and then turned the gun on herself.
Now, local residents are wondering why a respected psychiatrist would be blamed for a stunning murder-suicide.
"The pain that would drive someone to do that must be awful," Donna Wilcox, a neighbor, said.
In a statement, Benjamin's father said that he loved his son and ex-wife and was proud of both of them. Staff at Jensvold's office would not comment, but her employer, Kaiser Permanente, expressed deep sadness over the tragedy.
