A 19-year-old Woodbridge man has been charged with igniting Molotov cocktails and starting a fire at Rippon Middle School in Woodbridge.
Early Sunday morning about 1 a.m., a police officer saw a fire in the parking lot of the school, according to insidenova.com.
Prince William County fire and rescue Battalion Chief Joe Robertson tells insidenova.com that the officer saw several people run from the scene. The officer caught one man, who admitted he had made and ignited the Molotov cocktails.
Douglas Shea Whitmore of Sunny Ridge Drive was charged with the manufacture, possession, and use of a fire bomb; conspiracy to commit a felony and underage possession of alcohol, Robertson told insidenova.com.
Whitmore is held without bond at the Prince William-Manassas regional jail and has a court date of Aug. 29. Investigators are still looking for accomplices.
Police say two Molotov cocktails had been ignited and three more were found that had not been ignited.
No damage to the school was detected.
