BALTIMORE (AP) - Maryland's transportation secretary says toll increases for state bridges, tunnels and roads will most likely be delayed.

The state has been holding public hearings on the proposed toll increases which have been met with opposition. Transportation Secretary Beverley Swaim-Staley says because of changes being considered in response, members of the Maryland Transportation Authority board may not vote on a final schedule on Aug. 25 as planned. A 30-day notice is required once a plan is adopted, and that could delay the first increases to Nov. 1 or later, instead of Oct. 1.

The proposals include increasing tolls for passenger cars on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge from $2.50 to $5, and to $8 beginning in July 2013.
