Metro Labor Council endorses Derrick L. Davis for Prince George's Council seat
The Metro Washington Labor Council announced their endorsement of Derrick L. Davis in the special election to fill the vacant District 6 seat on the Prince George's County Council, which was vacated when Leslie Johnson resigned in June.
Davis, an educational administrator for the Prince George’s County Public School system, is Chairman of the Maryland Automobile Insurance Fund. He was appointed to the board by Governor Martin O’Malley in 2007 and was elected chairman in December.
Davis, a Mitchellville resident, was born in Suitland and grew up in Capitol Heights.
The endorsement of Davis was announced at a press conference Tuesday morning, at the headquarters of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 689.
Leslie Johnson resigned from the council after pleading guilty to federal evidence tampering charges in June.
Nearly 200 affiliated union locals with more than 150,000 members are represented by the MWLC, including service industries, retail sales, communications, transportation, manufacturing, construction trades, and the public sector.
