Planners close to agreement on 2nd phase of Dulles Metro project
WASHINGTON (AP) - Planners say they are closer to an agreement on how to build and pay for the second phase of the Metrorail extension to Washington Dulles International Airport.
The Washington Post reports that a group of about a dozen representatives of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, Metro, Fairfax and Loudoun counties, and the Virginia Department of Transportation met Tuesday with Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.
The second phase, which will go from Reston Town Center to Dulles and Ashburn, is estimated to cost $3.5 billion but officials want to cut that down closer to $2.5 billion. Representatives declined to discuss specifics of the meeting, and only said that progress was being made.
LaHood has scheduled another meeting for Sept. 23.
