Prince William County Police canvass neighborhood for leads in sexual assaults, robberies
Detectives from the Prince William County Police Department canvassed the Summerland Heights Apartment Complex Saturday morning. They're searching for leads and clues in their investigation into recent burglaries and sexual assaults in the area.
The detectives provided residents with an update on their investigation and distributed a confidential questionaire. They encouraged residents to report any suspicious behavior or memories of suspicious activities in the past several months. They said even details that might seem unimportant could turn out to be very important to the investigation.
The crimes happened in June and July in ground floor apartments in both Woodbridge and Lorton. Prince William County Police and Fairfax County Police are working together to determine if the crimes were committed by the same suspect.
On June 16, 2011, a suspect got inside two separate ground floor apartments at the Summerland Heights Apartment Complex on the 1800 block of Gableridge Turn in Woodbridge. In one of the cases, a female resident was sexually assaulted.
On July 5, a suspect gained entry into a ground floor apartment in the Lorton area and sexually assaulted a female resident. On July 16, a similar incident happened in the Lorton area, also resulting in a sexual assault of a female resident.
The suspect is described as a black male, 5'8 to 6'0 tall with a medium build, approximately 200 lbs. with a medium complexion and possible mustache. In all of these cases, the suspect had his face covered with a mask.
Police are offering a $1,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest. Residents or witnesses can call 866-411-TIPS.
The questionnaire distributed by detectives Saturday can also be found online.
