Prosecutors say lawyers for Albert Haynesworth have offered money to the W Hotel waitress who claims he groped her so she would help get the criminal case dropped.

Lawyers for Haynesworth repeatedly offered the waitress money, documents filed with the court state.

“The government is well-aware of the fact that on numerous occasions since the assault took place, defense counsel has approached (the waitress’) attorney, offering a sum of money in exchange for (her) assistance in getting the criminal case dismissed,” the document reads.

However, the prosecutors write, even if Haynesworth had reached a settlement with the waitress, as the complainant she "does not have the power to dismiss a criminal case brought by the United States.”

Haynesworth’s attorneys alleged the waitress' lawyer tried to bribe a witness, offering $50,000 for favorable testimony. The prosecution disputes that claim, saying the offer from an unknown man was vague and it's unclear in whose interest he acted.

The man who approached the witness didn’t state his name and only said that it would be “worth (the witness’) while” to “help out a certain individual.”

The prosecutors asks the court to exclude speculations that the waitress or her attorney tried to bribe the witness.
