An 18-year-old from Hyattsville, Md., was killed in a traffic crash at the intersection of Florida Avenue and Eckington Place Northeast Tuesday.

Police identified the decedent as 18-year-old Royal Garner.

The man was riding a dirt bike at about 5 a.m. along Florida Avenue. Another person was with him, also on a dirt bike. As the two approached Florida Avenue and Eckington Place Northeast, a tractor trailer going the same direction made a slow wide right turn into Eckington Place. Garner lost control and was run over by the tractor trailer’s rear tire, police said.

Emergency personnel called to the scene found no signs of life in Garner. His body was taken to the medical examiner. The other person was able to avoid the tractor trailer.
