Secret Service officer hurt in SE crash; I-295 shut down

A portion of northbound Interstate 295 is shut down in Southeast as police investigate a motorcycle crash involving a Secret Service officer.

Police say the officer was hurt in the single-vehicle accident on northbound I-295 near the Malcolm X exit around 9:44 a.m. Friday, D.C. Fire reports.

DDOT says that two lanes of the highway are closed.

The officer is currently being evaluated by emergency personnel, and is a member of the Secret Service Uniformed Division.

Police have shut down the highway while a medical helicopter lands at the scene. Traffic delays are expected.
