Sewage overflow evacuates Greenbelt apartments
August 7, 2011 - 09:41 am
Four apartments had to be evacuated when overflowing sewage spilled into a building in Greenbelt Saturday.
Approximately 46,000 gallons of wastewater flowed in the area after a mechanical failure at the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission’s Greenbriar Wastewater Pumping Station at 8021 Mandan Road on August 6. The overflow did not affect any waterways, the WSSC said.
The spill lasted throughout the night until shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday.
WSSC encouraged citizens to call the commission if they suspect a sewer backup.
