Water main break in Temple Hills leaves a school without water.

An elementary school was temporarily without water this morning on the first day back to school due to a water main break in Temple Hills, officials say.

The break happened about 5 a.m., Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission spokeswoman Kimberley Knox said.

The school, J. Frank Dent Elementary in Fort Washington, remained open. A school spokesman confirmed water service returned although it was not immediately known when service returned or for how long it was down.

The break affected 103 customers. By 12:30 p.m., that number was down to 66, WSSC said.

A motorcyclist was injured when the driver ran through a barricade closing the road at about 6 a.m., Knox said. The driver's condition was not immediately known.

Crews were on the scene this morning working on the break. The water main was installed in 1965.
