Thousands to take part in 9/11 day of service
August 23, 2011 - 12:56 pm
Thousands of Washington-area residents are signing up for service events to mark the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.
Hands on Greater D.C. Cares is expanding its three-year-old service event from two to three days. A groundswell of interest has prompted the organization to close registration for the first two days of the event. The event is expected to have double the number of participants as last year.
The American Red Cross is planning blood drives area wide during the week of September 4th to mark the anniversary. The Red Cross is urging people to donate blood as a way to remember those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
