Tractor-trailer accident on I-95
Updated: August 5, 2011 - 09:34 pm
A tractor-trailer has flipped over onto its side on northbound I-95 in Jessup, killing at least one person, police say.
The accident occurred near the exit for Maryland Route 175. Two northbound lanes were shut down for about three hours. By 9:30 p.m., a portion of the exit ramp lane to Route 175 is closed, but drivers can still get off. The trailer is being off-loaded and removed from the road.
Preliminary investigations showed that the truck driver was in the third lane and ran off the road, up an embankment, and overturned in the wood line, Maryland State Police stated. No other vehicle was involved and its unclear why the truck ran off the road.
The operator was identified by his Georgia driver’s license as David Arturo Espinoza of Culledon, Ga.
The accident occurred just before 11:40 a.m., according to Maryland State Police. Delays on northbound I-95 begin near Route 32 and stretched for about eight miles, police say.
