They say they’re afraid to let their children play under it and fear the next big storm could knock it down. They’ve been calling the city for help since last year.

"The tree is eventually going to fall,” Kitt says. “It's gonna fall on my house or its' either going to fall on one of my vehicles."

A city inspector who looked at the tree last week said it was in fair to good condition. The tree is not at significant risk to anyone, the inspector said.

But the inspector says they’ll remove the tree now, which is music to the ears of the Grays of NE D.C. who said they’ve been calling for two years to get dead trees removed from their street.
