WASHINGTON (AP) - More than 4,000 volunteers are set to spruce up District of Columbia public schools ahead of the first day of class.

Hundreds of volunteers are expected to turn out for "Beautification Day" to help prepare D.C. schools for the first day of class.

Saturday is the sixth annual "Beautification Day" at more than 100 schools throughout the city. Students return to school on Monday.

The volunteers will plant flowers, clear weeds, trim shrubs, touch up paint on school buildings and remove trash.
