Woman dies in Loudoun county crash
A woman was killed and a man injured in a car crash on Route 15 in Loudoun County Wednesday.
Shortly before 6:20 a.m., a Virginia State Trooper got word that a truck was driving erratically on Route 15 North, Virginia State Police said in a news release. The trooper went searching for the truck.
From a hill just south of Route 621, the trooper witnessed a 2008 Chevrolet pick-up truck cross into the southbound lane of Route 15. The truck struck a Ford van and then hit a 1997 Nissan pick-up truck head-on. The driver of the Chevrolet truck died at the scene.
She was identified by police as Carol R. Wooten, 53, of Ashburn, Va. Police say Wooten was not wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the Nissan truck, Arturo Pineda, 43, of Brunswick, Md., was flown to the hospital by helicopter with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford van was not injured.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Route 15 was closed to traffic for about three hours following the crash. It re-opened at 9:34 a.m.
