The city is seeking a new town crier, and tryouts will be held Thursday night at the city's Lloyd House. A second tryout will be held on Sept. 7.

The volunteer position was last held by William North-Rudin, who served for five years before moving out of state.

The city says applicants should have a powerful but clear voice, a strong sense of civic pride, and a willingness to make public appearances in early 19th-century attire. The city also wants its crier to have a sense of humor, and a love of children, parades and tourists.
