D.C. mayor Vincent Gray's deputy chief of staff Andi Pringle has offered her resignation and Gray accepted.

"I appreciate her taking responsibility for her actions," Gray said in a statement. He sought to shift the focus to the administration’s "four major priorities: economic development and job creation, education reform, public safety, and responsible fiscal management," adding "we must do everything we can to restore public trust in our government.”

The D.C. Board of Elections stated earlier that it was investigating Pringle for voting in the district last year when she lived in Maryland.

The voting irregularities were revealed Thursday by activist Dorothy Brizill on the website dcwatch.com. Brizill filed a formal complaint Friday, challenging the legality of Pringle's vote.

Pringle said previously in a statement that she voted in Washington because she hadn't severed ties to the city and had not established Montgomery County residency.

She says, "If this was in error, I apologize."

Pringle says she plans to move back to the district. She was a political consultant on Howard Dean's 2004 presidential bid, among others.
