(WJLA, AP) - Arlington County - home to the Pentagon - and Montgomery County will host several events to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.
Friday, a remembrance ceremony will be held at 12:30 p.m. at Courthouse Square Park, near the corner of Jefferson St. and Maryland Ave, in Montgomery County. The event will feature performances by the county's law enforcement gospel choir and the Montgomery County Firefighters Pipes and Drums. County Executive Isiah Leggett, County Council President Valerie Ervin, Rockville Mayor Phyllis Marcuccio and U.S. Congressman Chris Van Hollen will be in attendance.
A commemorative event Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Air Force Memorial, which overlooks the Pentagon, will feature musical performances by the Air Force Band Brass Quintet Ensemble and Wakefield High School's a cappella choir. The event is designed to honor the 184 people who lost their lives in the Pentagon attack.
The county also is sponsoring a 5K run Saturday that starts and ends in Crystal City and goes by the Pentagon. The run benefits a variety of charities related to Sept. 11 and military families.
