September 19, 2011 - 09:59 am
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin is visiting Frederick to unveil a bill that he says will create up to 40,000 green construction jobs nationwide.
The Maryland Democrat says the bipartisan legislation would provide tax incentives to make the roofs of existing commercial buildings more energy-efficient.
Cardin says the bill would significantly reduce the depreciation schedule for retrofitting roofs for energy efficiency.
Republican Sen. Mike Crapo of Idaho is co-sponsoring the legislation.
Cardin says other supporters include the National Roofing Contractors Association and the United Union of Roofers.
